This poor little Jumeau 8 was in a terrible state when I first bought her, but what attracted me to her is that she had her original clothing, wig and cork pate. Her head was in many pieces, had no eyes and had been very badly repaired.

The first job was to un-stick all of the pieces and make very sure that no glue residue was left. Luckily all of the breaks were very clean, so no filling was needed. After a bit of research I discovered that she originally had dark brown paperweight eyes, so I bought the best for her, made by a Germany company who supplied eyes to major dollmakers of France and Germany well over 100 years ago.

This is the foot when it came to me .....

..... just a foot up to its ankle, bound up in bandages.

Firstly the pieces were roughly put together and the leg had a polythene sleeve inserted which was then filled with plaster of paris as a reinforcement.

The cracks were then filled, the original knee ball joint inserted, and the elastic which would be used to re-string the doll.

The leg was then sanded down ....

..... and given a coat of paint. I was particularly pleased with this repair as I personally couldn't tell which leg I had repaired!

Bobby's head when it arrived for restoration was filled with concrete!

It had many cracks which had been badly repaired, and were very dirty. It also had a large hole to its forehead where it appeared to have been shot!

The head repairs were carefully taken apart and
thoroughly cleaned.....

..... and then the re-assembly and filling work began.

After a re-string Bobby has had a coat of paint and sealant .....

,,,,, and now has his suitcase packed all ready to go home for Christmas.
