My name is Heather and I have been restoring and making dolls for a very long time - since the early 1980's.
It first started when I was invited to a Christmas party and was shown a doll kit which had been given to my host’s daughter as a Christmas present. I admired it, but at the time thought no more about it – until a week later when I found an antique doll in a market. Linking this to the Christmas present, I bought the doll, and being a very creative person made a mould, bought some liquid porcelain, and after a local potter had carried out my kiln firings, I had produced my first replica vintage doll.
From there I went on to make dolls professionally. Whilst working at the pottery people would look at my work and make comments such as “that’s gorgeous, but I could never do anything like that” to which I replied that of course they could, if they were taught, so I started teaching classes from the pottery, from home, and also taught doll making for several educational authorities in various areas of England, and appeared on BBC television with my replicas.
When my children were small, dolls and doll making took a back seat for a while until the Covid pandemic hit the UK and during lockdown I started to restore a number of French and German dolls which gave me much satisfaction and encouraged me to return to doll restoration and repair.
