This poor little girl was in a terrible state when I bought her, but what attracted me to her is that she had her original clothing, wig and cork pate. Her head was in many pieces, had no eyes and had been very badly repaired.
The first job was to un-stick all of the pieces and make very sure that there was no glue residue left. Then slowly, bit by bit the "jigsaw puzzle" was put together. Luckily all of the breaks were very clean, so no filling was needed. After a bit of research I discovered that she originally had brown paperweight eyes, so these were sourced from my eye makers whose business supplied the famous makers way back in the 1800s and early 1900s. The clothes were then carefully washed, bearing in mind that the fabric is over one hundred years old; her pate and wig re-attached, and after a re-string she is as good as she was she was first bought, probably in Paris all those years ago.
